Success often comes with a demanding schedule, but Jennifer Lopez recently revealed how relentless work during the peak of her early career led to a serious health scare.
Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, the actress and singer shared details of a frightening incident that occurred in the early 2000s after months of nonstop commitments.
During the conversation, Lopez, 56, reflected on the period when she was filming the thriller “Enough” while simultaneously managing a packed music and promotional schedule.
“I think I had done like four movies in a row, and I had recorded my second album or something like that, so the JLo album, which was really big,” Lopez said.
At the time, filming occupied her days, while studio sessions filled her nights. Weekends rarely offered any downtime, as they were dedicated to press junkets, video shoots, and promotional appearances. Looking back, Lopez realized she had gone nearly 98 consecutive days without taking a single day off.
Warning Signs Began to Appear

The demanding routine eventually started affecting her health. Lopez recalled noticing unusual symptoms while working on the set of “Enough.”
“Every time I walk to the set, I start getting a little pitter-patter in my heart,” she explained.
The feeling gradually intensified, leaving her increasingly uneasy. While filming a scene with a young co-star, Lopez admitted she felt unusually tired and unwell. Although she initially brushed off the symptoms, the situation quickly became more serious.
After returning to her trailer, Lopez experienced alarming physical changes.
“I just couldn’t see,” she said. “Like, it was almost like I couldn’t see clearly, like something just went over my eyes, and I couldn’t move.”
Her longtime friend and assistant, Arlene, who had known Lopez since second grade, was nearby when the incident occurred.
“I said to her, ‘Arlene, I can’t move. I can’t see,” Lopez recalled.
Concerned by the severity of the symptoms, her assistant immediately sought help, leading to a hospital visit.
What Doctors Discovered

At the hospital, Lopez feared the episode could be linked to a serious mental or physical condition.
“We went to the hospital. And I said to the doctor, ‘Am I going crazy?’ And he said, ‘No. You’re not crazy,’” she remembered.
Doctors determined that the symptoms were not caused by a long-term medical issue. Instead, they were the result of extreme physical exhaustion brought on by months of nonstop work and insufficient rest.
Jennifer Lopez’s experience highlights the toll that prolonged overwork can take on the body. The incident occurred during one of the busiest periods of her career, when filming movies, recording music, and handling promotional commitments left little room for recovery.
While the health scare proved temporary, it served as a stark reminder that even the most successful careers require balance, rest, and attention to personal well-being.
